Composition

Composition is the most basic and important photography tip you need to learn, and it involves paying attention to what you’re actually looking at through your viewfinder. Fill the frame with something interesting (a picture of a grey sky filling the frame will not be very interesting). Find the main subject you want to focus on in the photo and try positioning it off center or rotating your camera for a portrait shot.

Macro

Your camera should have a macro mode option, which will allow you to take close up shots. A close up of flowers or water droplets can bring out details you never knew existed, and make for a great shot.

Tripod

Blurry photos are very common, and can destroy an otherwise perfect picture, even a little bit of handshake can cause this. A tripod is a very useful tool, even for certain types of photography such as long exposure and night photography. There are many quality tripods that can be bought cheaply.

Play around

Try different angles, such as off the floor, on top of a ladder, turn your camera on it’s side and use different objects as the main point of interest. Some creativity and out of the box thinking will pay off with some awesome shots if you put the effort in.

Take a course

If you want to learn more, try taking a course. There are many online photography courses you can do easily on Youtube or take a course at your local college. But practice is the best learning tool and you should do this as much as you can.

It will take time to take great photos, and you won’t be a professional overnight, but the sky is your limit.
